Message:   1998.5 to 2002 used the Bosch VP44 lift pump, they have a bad reputation and a so so track record. Early 12 valve and later 2003 to present Cummins used a different pump and they are pretty bullet proof. I'd let your wallet be your guide, but I'm partial to the new Cummins with 610 ft. lbs, also this is the LAST year for the 5.9, next year the 6.7 comes out and you may see deals on "old" 2006's still on the lot when the 6.7 monster Cummins hits the car/truck magazines.
