Message:   Steve, good idea on the strap wrench, I have one and thought that would do it, but the oil pan prevents enough access to get a good hold. I've removed the engine/trans. support bracket to have better access with a hammer and chisel, plus I'll have to jack up the front and support on jack stands to get a better hit. I'm convinced the filter was put on dry or with a wrench, or both. On my own vehicles I never use a wrench to remove the filter, I just snug it on real good with a wet seal. Air hammer is my next option, then a lit match in the gas tank. Thanks to all for the help.
