Message:   Well, I'm going to say that the "OFFICIAL" word is: 383 with air, regardless of model or wheelbase. There is a shortbed 383 in Norm's picture list that has them, too.

Auto manufacturers have ALWAYS grabbed what was available if the required part was not immediately at hand AND if the replacement part was appropriate for the application. As long as that replacement/substitute part or parts did not negatively affect the required or desired operation of a certain part, it was likely used.

So, to summarize: It has been positively and irrefutably established that the valence with the holes was and is intended for trucks WITH 383 and air conditioning. Again, did some trucks leave the factory with the wrong valence? Yes. Does it really matter? Not really, in the big scheme of things. We have established what the part is intended for, and that was the goal here.
