As Pat said, it's best to check with your paint supplier and "work backward" from the finish paint to your starting point of metal prep. That way you'll be using products that are compatible with each other, all the way through the process.
A word of caution, when roughing up that surface for filler, don't grind too much, you don't want to remove any more material than you have to.
