Message:   Police, Fire and Ambulance used a large 114-118-120 amp alternator. It has a squarish cast rib across the top with two mount bolts there, another mount bolt below. These were a killer diller alternator, don't you dare toss it! The best, man, the best!!

Some few had a similar Leece Neville 120 amp alternator. These are usually labeled with that name. If that's what you have it's like a $400+ alternator!

Both of these hi-output alternators can be rebuilt with new diode packs, bearings etc.

Adjustable voltage regulators are fine, and easily adjusted. As I recall, increasing the points gap at 'F' terminals increases voltage output. I may have instructions around here somewhere. Thing is they're not likely to suddenly go grossly out of adjustment, more common to experience slight degrading of charge quality over a long time as points wear. I'd say not likely the problem. Make sure it has a clean bare metal ground at its case though.

As to your problem it sounds like the battery cables are bad, most likely the ground cable. Cut back some of the insulation and look for corrosion, especially nasty green stuff. If not that then check that your engine to firewall ground strap is in good shape, with clean bare metal grounds at engine and firewall.

If this isn't the problem possibly the ignition switch or switch wiring is faulty.
