Message:   Not being a 'tranny' man, but remembering old techniques, you could probably fashion a piece of bar stock with the correct holes to fit on both bolt holes. With a slide hammer in the middle I'm guessing equal pressure would be applied to both sides and the pump would then come out evenly. Tightening the band as sugested, makes a lot of sense too.
As for "whipping"...... I'm out
