Message:   The standard Chrysler Products air cleaner in the mid-30's was a metal mesh, oil wet air filter.
Heavy duty air filtration was handled by the optional oil bath air cleaner. Air was pre-cleaned by an oil wet metal mesh, then was drawn into the oil bath itself. Theory is that contaminated air impinged on the oil in the bottom of the air cleaner housing and dirt particles that made it past the metal mesh air filtration stage were caught up in the oil. Remember..these were the days of the Dust Bowl...Chrysler had to engineer the finest for air filtration...nothing less would do!
