Message:   The last 1/4" is tapered, the next 3/4" is expanded outward, then the limit ring prevents it from slipping all the way in. It is a press fit but the contact surface is not at that last 1/4", it's the 3/4's" before that. You could flow a coat of braze over the end to fatten it up if you can't dimple it out with a prick punch or stretch it back out.
