Message:   Why?
Fuel economy is primarily a function of motor torque vs. weight, combined with gearing and rpm.
Gasoline provides less BTU's per gallon than Diesel.
The Jeeps are small and light, the biggest issue with their fuel economy right now, is that they use the same gas gulping, low torque motors, that Chrysler puts in their mini-vans.
Replace those anemic, inefficient gassers with high torque, fuel sipping diesels and the power is better, fuel economy is better, they run nearly as quiet, they are cleaner and they can run on bio. It's a win-win-win situation that most Americans are ignorant about.
