Message:   My latest FelPro gasket is some new stuff. There isn't a composite between 2 steel shims. It's a steel shim gasket all around the cylinders & combustion areas, then a composite material laid down & bonded in galleries areas, and steel again all around the very outside. Also had some kind of soft polymer or plastic for additional sealing around very outside area. Really hi-tech stuff.

The composite crushes down to steel shim thickness, if it didn't the steel shim simply wouldn't seal at all. The composite crushes however it's needed, to seal areas that can be slightly irregular around water & oil galleries.

All together you have the steel shim gasket handling the compression and acting as the parent gasket, and the composite filling in irregularities near oil & water. There can be more expansion/contraction around galleries, so composite helps there. Combustion chamber temperatures are more constant, less variation & expansion/contraction.

Overall gasket thickness is constant and wouldn't change compression with this particular gasket.
