I know guys that cut the rim off and used the center section in a different rim, and guys that made their own wheel centers for a rim.

Other than some heat warpage which is easy to beat I don't see why I wouldn't work, depending on rim style of course.

One potential problem is the the outer edge of rim, like if it was laying flat on the ground or on a tire machine, isn't so rounded. Might be tricky to mount a tire onto rim without tearing the bead, trying to get it over the edge, I'd check that out closely. Normal rims are rolled over more in some cases, the old split rims being more a flat edge than rolled.

Sure would be some stout rims if they were welded up though!
