Message:   Are you guys saying the bed is 8 foot long if a ruler is laid on top of the bed sides?? I think the extra is in the difference between the back of the cab (front of the bed) to the spare tire carrier, a 6 1/2 bed will have the tire almost hitting the cab them compared to this picture of the blue bed where the tire seems like it has tons of room. Could a person remove the front excess section and make a 6 1/2 bed out of it and would it fit on a 6 1/2 wheel base w series truck and look correct???? (axle in wheel well?) I never knew the steps were longer for the 8 foot beds but makes sense to me now, thanks. I have a short w series that needs a 6 1/2 box and was thinking about buying it and trying to section it to use it, somehow i got it in my head it was not a 8 foot bed, the tail gate fenders and head board and spare tire rack are nice on the blue bed for sure.
