Message:   3 yrs ago Killr didnt understand the virtues of keeping oil in an engine, so on Thanksgiving day he had the priviledge of experiencing the routine rod thru the side of the oil pan syndrome. Being broke, I told him he could have the LA 318 I had in a 68 D400 which I picked up in 2002 for $150 and drove 75 miles home.
Well, a year later this free motor started knocking about 15 miles from home, so I told him to drive it easy and try to get to the house. About 3 miles and 1 big hill out it was pounding so hard I knew it wouldnt make it so it came in on a chain. Started it back up in the driveway and on the second run up to 2500 r's....rattleracketwhump...that was it....got a neat display piece now.

The crank tells the whole story of what, how, why and when. Its very evident, quite interesting and educational. Not sure how well it shows in that pic - anybody see it?

btw - thats the 2nd cast crank Ive seen break in a LA. 1st time was in 85.
