try goin thru a couple of midwest winters with a 2wd car/truck, ice and snow EVERYWHERE,you would be screamin for salt!! its different than those cozy ca winters,in jan 2002 we had the worst ice storm in the history of my town,no elec for a week,broke limbs EVERYWHERE,i had limbs broke on 17 trees at my house alone,you gotta have salt to melt that stuff,and the farther north and east you go,the more snow you get,of course tire chains are a thing of the past!!,just think about the outcry if the hiways arent cleared,commerce has to travel,snow/ice or not
not to mention salt is plentaful ,and cheap,hutchinson ks sits on one of the largest salt deposits anywhere!!
