I believe Charley Reese is still alive, not sure. He was certainly an individual, not a mindless sheep. I disagree with him about 50% of the time but on some issues he seemed to hit the nail on the head. Unfortunately he was far too liberal in many cases to my way of thinking yet he supported much of America's fundamental doctrines. Certainly can't be accused of being bashful.
