Message:   Curtis,

Everything that Jimmy mentioned is so, but I will have to respectfully disagree with not wanting the 741. Many people think the 741 is not a strong pig, but I have run 3 741's in drag cars running mid 11's and never hurt one. For the street, they will hold up just fine, and for most drag racing applications running high 11's. The cool thing, is people will give them to you. Yes the 742 is stronger, and the 489 "might" be stronger, but for a street truck, if you have a 741, it will work just great.

When I built my Duster, a fellow racer had a Mark Williams built 8 3/4 and was going to a Dana. I bought it for 700.00. I could not buy the parts for 1300.00 plus have Willims put the billet caps on. I have run this for two seasons and never broken a thing. The car runs 9.90 136MPH and we are at 4500 feet. The reason I went this way was two fold, lighter, and price. Never looked back. My street rod is a 440 65 Belvedere - 741 - 4:56 gears, never hurt it. I later built a 742 - 4:56 pig for when I broke the 741 - never used it. Still sitting there.
