Message:   You are exactly spot on! The division makes MORE money than Mercedes, has good sales figures, except for the 4th quarter of last year, and only loses money because of the pension plans...which they approved in negotiations.
The foreign manufacturers are NOT union, that's why all plants except two are in the South.
Productivity is a measure of product vs. costs, the union caused overhead hurts that number, however productivity at USA plants is HIGHER than most manufactures. Case in point, it is cheaper to build a Honda in the US than to build one in Japan, that is why you see so many plants being built here by foreign manufacturers.
